last few weeks

The last few weeks have been good, the sun has come out, we have come out of hiatus and are gearing up for autumn winter next year, and we have been having a generally pretty good time.

A fortnight ago we went to Nicholas Chalmers' exhibition Ze Frog and Toad. Held in Surry Hills, in the back of a converted truck he rented and drove up and down the east coast. Apart from some Surry Hills street crime across the road, it went off with out a hitch, met some nice people and had a good time.

Then about a week later, our friend Luke had an exhibition, at Somedays. It was a really good turn out, he showed a lot of new work and we got to catch up with some friends from home.

His exhibition, Todays, runs until 10th of October in Somedays in Surry Hills, it is well worth going and checking it out.

Last weekend

We had such a good time last weekend we thought we should probably share it.

On what turned out to be a beautiful saturday afternoon, we set off to on the road to the Penrith Regional Gallery, with our friends Wil and Tom, to go to the Disorder Disorder exhibition opening. We were feeling pretty excited about the line up of artists and the fact that it wasn't raining for once.

The traffic on Parramatta Road tried its best to break our spirit.

It meant the roadies did not last as long as we hoped, but it was sunny

and we had four iPods.

We saw this little kid sitting in a Lamborghini Diablo, we gave him

a jealous thumbs up. He was pretty happy with himself and rightly so.

Serge's car was no match for this kid's ride. Double fist-pump.

We arrived after a journey that took a bit longer than expected.

The gallery looked great, the weather was still warm, the crowd was excellent.

We listened to some speeches, they confirmed the drive was worth it.

Free sausages and beer, excellent.

Dinner round two.

and then drove back home to Sydney to watch Assassins 88

and TV Colours.

We then did the only thing we could do to cap the day off... dos capas.

It was a good day.

Serge (one half of Book Club), has been selected as a finalist in the National Youth Self Portrait Prize for his work, I, Goghbot. Submitted under the pseudonym Reges Lobud, the work is now hanging in the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra until September 12. It is well worth checking out in the flesh/frame. It stands out even in a gallery full of great portraits and as if this nod from the art community wasn't enough, my mum even said Serge looked handsome, bloody but handsome. Congratulations Serge/Reges.

Good News - Our friends from our old home are coming to visit our new home

The Fighting League and Assassins 88 are playing at a show put on by RIP Society Records with Bed Wettin' Bad Boys and Bitch Prefect. It is only $5, for $5 you can't even get a whole sandwich anymore and this will be much better than a sandwich.

This Saturday at 4:30 in the afternoon so it won't even clash with your plans for the night.

Some of you may have noticed, Book Club has been a bit quiet lately. We didn't release A/W 2010, blog posts have been few and far between, there is a reason. We have both relocated to Sydney and decided to focus on getting set up here. Book Club hasn't stopped though, we are working hard.

Dream Damage

Some people think our home town, Canberra, is boring. Those people have not been looking hard enough. A case in point is Dream Damage, an independent mp3 blog and record label based in Canberra, Australia, releasing music digitally and physically.

"One of the best things that comes out of nothing is music for music’s sake and the necessary return to good, honest song writing that invokes the latent energy of a small and under appreciated town. There’s no leaching off scenes here cause they don’t exist..."

Dream Damage is much more than just a blog or a label, it has quickly evolved into an inclusive community of like-minded musicians and the people that appreciate them. There is a real energy about the collective that would surely come as a surprise to people from out of town.

The artists they represent, including a few we have mentioned on our blog before, are diverse and well worth a listen. However, seeing them play in a crowded bar or a sweaty house party quickly dispels any myths about this city being boring. Like many places, you just need to know where to look.

Fashion Palette People's Choice

Last Saturday in Sydney, we won the first ever people's choice Fashion Palette Excellence Award. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to help us out and vote. We really appreciate it.

Thank you to Sonya Mefaddi for organising the event, it was a huge success and we look forward to the next year. Thanks to our models for our runway show, despite broken toes and busy schedules did a great job and provided good banter. Platypus Shoes (Canberra) who again helped us out with all of their size 12 Vans Authentics for the show. The speakers who we enjoyed at the conference, Alpha 60, Insight and Kate Vandemeer and last but not definitely not least, our girlfriends who helped us/put up with us all weekend.
